He ahs received the designation of Master Marine Surveyor from the United States Surveyors Association and he is Navtech certified. In addition, Mr. Straton, has studied yacht design at the Westlawn Institute of Marine Technology, one of the industries most prestigious design schools.

He is also knowledgeable active boater with over 28 years experience, having sailed the Great Lakes, the Pacific, Atlantic, Caribbean, Adriatic and Mediterranean seas.

His professional affiliations include, US Surveyors Association, The Society of Naval Engineers, American Boat and Yacht Council and National Safe Boating Council. He is also approved by the United States Coast Guard to perform Commercial Fishing Vessel Safety Inspections.

Mr. Straton holds many honors including , Honorary Lt. Governor, Honorary Treasurer and Honorary Secretary of State for the state of Alabama. He is an Honorary Colonel in the State Militias of Tennessee, Alabama, and Kentucky. He is also listed in the 1998-99 Directory of Who's Who in Executives and Professionals.
